Synopsis: Psychological thriller based on the 1980 novel of the same title by Athol Fugard which means "thug or gangster". Set in a shanty town in South Africa in the 1950's when the country's black majority were being repressed. The story centres around a violent nineteen year old criminal whose mother's premature death and social circumstances propel him into a world of crime with no hope for the future. He rediscovers his humanity, dignity and capacity to love when he is forced to take care of a baby accidentally kidnapped during a car jacking.
